This second quarter has been particularly eventful, but the most notable market development has been the IPO of SpaceX, which has become the largest IPO in history so far. The company went public at $135, but trading quickly repriced it higher, with the first open-market price at $150 and a peak reaching $225.64 before retracing more than 35% from those highs. This type of price action is not unusual in IPOs, where initial scarcity, sentiment, and price discovery often lead to sharp early volatility before a more stable equilibrium is found.
